Activities and Initiatives

a) In 2006, the BERLINER FORUM ZUKUNFT (BFZ) focuses mainly on the transformation of the security sector, because the partition between outlooking defence and inlooking security is diminishing.

The development of this new security understanding ("Gesamtstaatliche Sicherheit") will be analysed in its institutional, technological, and material consequences through a conference series which is organised jointly by BFZ and the Federal College for Security Policy, Berlin, between January and November 2006.

Please find the programs of the individual conferences here...

b) Furthermore, the BFZ will continue the engagement with the transformation of the German armed forces within the European and transatlantic framework.

In this context, we have the honour to welcome the German Chief of Staffs, General Wolfgang Schneiderhan, as well as the Chief of Navy Staff, Vice Admiral Lutz Feldt, and Army Staff, Lieutnant General Hans-Otto Budde.

c) BFZ carries out its mission through the following activities:

  • conferences, lectures, in-depth discussions,
  • publications,
  • providing consultations for the Parliament, the Government, and other institutions,
  • organizing the DGAP's project group "International Space Policy".
