In his commentary piece for the Austrian daily "Der Standard", Alexander Rahr underlines Kazakhstan's growing strategic importance for Europe as an energy supplier and potential ally in Afghanistan. Kazakhstan took over the chairmanship of the OSCE at the start of 2010, provoking strong criticism, given the country’s poor democratic record.
