To which extent has the Polish economy been affected by the international financial and economic crisis? What is the Polish government’s economic policy and what are its effects? Which measures did Poland take to counter the crisis and how succesful were they? How is the Polish economy going to develop in a short and medium-term perspective? When is Poland expectedly going to enter the Euro-zone? Participants of the Round Table Poland debated these among other questions on Monday, 29 June 2009 at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP).
Guest lecturer Prof. Dr. habil. Dariusz Rosati, foreign minister (ret.), MEP, particularly emphasized potential policy options for the Polish government. Other topics that Rosati discussed in more detail regarded European solidarity in times of global economic crisis and the repercussions of the crisis for the process of European integration.
The Round Table Poland is a joint initiative by the German Council on Foreign Relations and the Stiftung für deutsch-polnische Zusammenarbeit (Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation). The Round Table is chaired by Markus Meckel, Member of the German Bundestag.

Central Asia between Russia, China and the EU
On the 20th of January 2010 Dr. Stefan Meister spoke in the context of a panel discussion organized by the DGAP Forum NRW and the Deutsch-Usbekische Gesellschaft about the increasing importance of Central Asia for the EU in Bonn. At the event Meister pointed out, that the EU is competing increasingly regarding resources and influence with China and Russia in the region. (20.01.2010)

„How to avoid the next gas crisis?“
At November 16th. Alexander Rahr gave a lecture as a key note speaker at the V. GASAG dinner colloquy, dealing with the subject „How to avoid the next gas crisis?“. The meeting took place at the Gasometer Berlin. After his lecture he discussed the current situation of the gas proceedings between Russia and the Ukraine with about 100 political and economical participators. (16.11.2009)
