Leaders of tomorrow present scenarios for four different world regions

Saturday 19. July 09:00 - 16:00
Location: DGAP, Berlin

How effective is foreign aid in promoting economic development if markets of the industrialized countries remain closed? What might be possible solutions to the global energy crisis and what are the prospects for a sustainable global energy order? What influence might developing nations such as India and China have in shaping the new global order? These, amongst other fundamental questions, were addressed by and gave shape to the final presentations of the participants in the 12th International Summer School.

As part of the DGAP’s International Forum on Strategic Thinking, the summer school, sponsored by the Robert Bosch Foundation, promotes cultural awareness and the creation of a network of future leaders. Every year, 30 students from Africa, Asia, North America, Europe and the Middle East are invited to Berlin for two weeks to discuss the foreign and security policies of their respective countries. By bringing together participants from such diverse backgrounds, the conference fosters the development of innovative approaches to global challenges and foreign policy. Moreover, the program intends to be a forum for dialogue between students often coming from conflict-ridden parts of the world. "The start of a conversation between an Iranian and an Israeli student is the first step in overcoming stereotypes and misperceptions", says David Bosold, the Head of Program. The summer school is held annually and will take place again in the second and third week of July 2009.
