On July 10th the Estonian minister of foreign affairs Urmas Paet presented the Estonian view on the current situation of the European Union. Minister Paet stressed the fact that the failure of the Lisbon Treaty could have serious consequences for the organizational structures of the EU and the population of its states. The Estonian minister of foreign affairs contributed to the current discussion in Germany and described the plan to build up a new nuclear power plant by the Baltic States together with Poland.
He supported a further EU enlargement and an increased effort of the EU towards a stronger cooperation with Georgia in connection to the European Security and Defence Policy. Also the topic of a common strategy of the Baltic Sea countries was part of his presentation. To conclude his talk minister Paet emphasized the importance of the EU and his optimistic stance towards the future of the organization.

At a conference featuring “Europe in the World,” in Cracow from June 19-20, 2008, which was jointly organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and the Institute for Strategic Studies, Josef Braml presented perspectives for transatlantic cooperation after the US elections. (20.06.2008)
