On 24 September 2008, the »Study Group on Globalization« convened for the third time this year under the title »The end of the Doha round: What future for the multilateral trade order?« Karl-Friedrich Falkenberg, Deputy Director-General for trade policy at the European Commission, Dr. Heinz Hetmeier, Head of the Trade Division at the Federal Economics Ministry, and Oliver Wieck, Head of the Foreign Economic Policy, Trade and Development Policy Division at the Federation of German Industries (BDI), introduced the topic. They discussed the failure of the WTO trade minister conference in July in Geneva and the future of the world trade system.
Gunter Krichbaum, MP and Chairman of the Bundestag's Committee on the European Union, chaired the session, acting in place of the Group's chair Eckart von Klaeden, MP and foreign affairs speaker of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.
