Meeting with Ambassadors

Thursday 28. August 18:00 - 19:00
Location: DGAP, Berlin

Persians, Huns as well as Alexander the Great once ruled the Tajikistan of today: A country in Central Asia with about 7,3 million inhabitants, which has common borders with Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and China. In 1991, the former Soviet-Republic declared itself independent, but the Islamic nation did not remain peaceful. Five years of civil war and dictatorship had shaken the region.

Today, Tajikistan is on the way to the rule of law and is looking for European investors in order to use its resources such as water, gold and petroleum. At the Meeting with Ambassadors on September 28th, the Tajik Ambassador in Germany, S.E. Imomudin Sattorov discussed with Hedi Wegener, chairwoman of the German-Centralasian Parliamentarian Group and Lutz Rehak, Expert for Central Asia of Humboldt-University of Berlin as well as anchor Sabine Porn from “Inforadio Berlin-Brandenburg” about history, faith and cultural common grounds.

Since January 2007 Inforadio Berlin-Brandenburg records the radio broadcast “Weltsichten. Inforadio ganz international – Die Botschaftermatinee”. Every four weeks, Sabine Porn welcomes a different ambassador and two other guests and talks about the country as well as its people, politics, culture and history. The next event will take place on 25th September. The issue will be Poland.
